Relationship

The bond between Zagart and Emeraude is the main reason of the beginning of Rayearth's story. Princess Emeraude reigns on a world called Sephiro, wherein her own will is the force everything needs to survive. The price a princess of Sephiro must pay is high: she mustn't fall in love with anyone, or else the fragile harmony in Sephiro would tragically brake, but Emeraude does, as she falls in love with Zagart, the priest of Sephiro, who, feeling the same, kidnaps the princess to save her from her unhappy destiny. Emeraude is forced to invoke the Magic Knights in order to save her planet. Thinking that Zagart was evil, and thinking that he held Emeraude captive aganist her will, the Knights kill the Priest, so the princess, blinded by rage, fights them, dying in the end, so she can stay with her love forever.
