Relationship

When General de Jarjayes decides to raise his newborn daughter as a man, to compensate the lack of male heirs in the Jarjayes family, which gave service to the Royal Family since many generations, no one dares to remind Oscar she was a woman. This, until André Grandier makes his entrance in her life. The General wants André to stay beside her to show her how a man usually behaves, but, however androgynous could Oscar seem to other people, André is the only one who always firmly sees the woman Oscar frantically denied to be... at least before she meets Hans Axel von Fersen, the count Queen Marie-Antoinette is desperately in love with. Tied to the both of them by a deep friendship, Oscar can do nothing but bury her feelings for the Swedish friend, who drastically worsens things when Oscar wears a feminine dress at a ball. Fersen doesn't recognize her after they danced together. She then decides to live like a true man, but André can't just bear the way things are, not after he lost an eye to protect her. In an attempt to reveal her his feelings, he kisses Oscar and tears her shirt apart. Now, there's no way things can turn back. When Oscar joins Military Guards, André follows her in anything she does, no matter how dangerous could it be. With time, with André being almost blind and Oscar devoured by consumption, they retrieve the long-lost tranquillity of their bond... and Oscar realises there's something else next to the mere friendship, as André was the only one who loved her silently and sincerely. When she finally realises she loves him, It's July, 12th 1789, and they spend one happiest night together, blissfully unaware that, just next morning, André will be shot by a soldier. Oscar can't bear the pain, but it gives her the strenght to attack the Bastille, now that she decided to follow the people. Crushed with pain, nothing matters to Oscar but death, which she finds when she's shot from the highest part of the fortress. And, on July, 14th 1789, nothing will be able to tear her apart from André anymore.
